Originally completed in 1905, the Niagara Parks Power Station is one of the most important heritage landmarks on the Canadian side of the Niagara River. Built to harness the power of Niagara Falls, the station played a major role in the early development of hydroelectric power in Ontario and remained in operation until 2006.
Today, the restored building has been transformed into an immersive public attraction, preserving its industrial history while giving visitors a renewed way to experience the architecture, engineering, and scale of the original power station. Beneath the building, the historic tunnel once carried discharged water back to the Niagara River and now forms part of the visitor experience.
Synergy Group was proud to contribute to this restoration, with our windows installed in 2025 on both the front and rear elevations of the building. The project required a careful balance of heritage preservation, architectural proportion, durability, and modern fenestration performance.
Alongside the heritage-sensitive replication of the original window character, energy efficiency was an important part of the project. For a building originally dedicated to harnessing the power of Niagara Falls, the new fenestration needed to respect the past while supporting the performance expectations of a modern public destination.
Each opening demanded close attention to sightlines, scale, durability, and historical character, ensuring the new windows felt appropriate to the original architecture while contributing to the building’s renewed public use.
For Synergy Group, the Niagara Parks Power Station reflects the kind of work we are built for: technically demanding, architecturally sensitive, and rooted in respect for the building itself. We are proud that our fenestration now forms part of the restored experience at one of Niagara’s most recognizable landmarks.
